  1. Better hurry the last weekend that the lightswill  be on is this coming weekend (4 Nov)

Train route-wise you can either go

Southampton - Waterloo, tube, Euston - Preston, Preston - Blackpool

Southampton - Birmingham, Birmingham - Preston, Preston - Blackpool

or on some trains its possible to go Southampton - Preston, Preston to Blackpool.

Journey time in all circumstances is around 5 - 5.5 hours sometimes more at weekends.

Fares depend on time of travel, whether you've booked etc. My advice is to get a family railcard before you go - adults get a third off adult fares and children get 60% off child fares - see http://www.family-railcard.co.uk/

Otherwise look at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk for train times

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

children under the age of 5 can travel free with each fare paying passenger
