Weekly Round-up: Khan vs. Peterson rematch and Pacquiao vs. Bradley on cards – Boxing Special
This week has been quite an electrifying one for boxing fans. News of some of the biggest fights of the year came in enthralling most of us. Timothy Bradley agreed yesterday to fight Manny Pacquiao, whereas Amir Khan tweeted about his rematch with Peterson
a day before and lastly we got to know about Mayweather vs. Cotto earlier this week.
Manny Pacquiao had agreed to fight Bradley earlier this week but decision from Bradley’s side was pending. Yesterday, news came in of Bradley finally agreeing to fight the Filipino. It should be noted here that Timothy Bradley has 28 wins and 0 losses in
his profile which means he is an unbeaten fighter to date. Putting up his unbeaten streak against Manny Pacquiao was surely a tough decision on his side, since Pacquiao is among the greatest and the most dangerous fighters we have today.
On the news of both fighters clashing, Timothy Bradley tweeted, “It's official my manager has made my dreams come true and I have signed my contract to fight Manny Pacquiao. It's time to get to work!”
Before the news of Pacquiao vs. Bradley came in, news of Mayweather vs. Cotto was all around. It was quite a shock for boxing fans to see Mayweather hopping onto Cotto, since most of us were expecting the super-match between Pacquiao and Mayweather this
May. Updates of talks between Mayweather and Pacquiao were closely being watched until they halted and Mayweather decided to fight Cotto.
Similarly, Pacquiao chose to fight Bradley after dialogues between both the parties were over. Not much about the bout between Manny and Timothy is out except that this will be Bradley’s highest ever paying fight since he will be getting around $5 million.
The bout will be at 147 pounds and probably for the title Manny holds.
What is exciting here is the fact that even though Pacquiao is a highly dangerous fight to collide with, Bradley is quite confident that he will take him down.
In his recent interview, Timothy asserted, “I'm younger, stronger and faster than Marquez. This will be no walk in the park for Manny Pacquiao.” Bradley is 28; Marquez is 38. Pacquiao is 33.”
Mayweather vs. Cotto and Pacquiao vs. Bradley are now two big fights on cards. Even though none of the fight will be as big as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, they will still be worth watching.
While the aforementioned updates seemed spine tingling, the third one of Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson rematch was even better. Both the fighters have agreed to fight at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on May 19. It took quite a lot for Khan to this
rematch. Initially he pleaded to the IBF but found no developments so Khan along with his camp tried convincing Peterson by offering him a 50-50 split of revenues. Initially, Peterson was acting snobbish but later he gave in and agreed to fight Khan.
On his previous fight and the controversial decision Khan faced, he asserted, “It was like I was against two people in there, Lamont and the ref himself… No wonder there hasn’t been boxing in D.C. for 20 years, this is what happens.”
With all these updates, it can be concluded that this week was a historical 2012 week for boxing fans around the world, since they got final decisions on three of the biggest matches of 2012.
