Weemissfrankie expected to do well at Hollywood Park when she tests the venue for the first time in Hollywood Starlet Stakes
The 2-year-old filly, Weemissfrankie, will be the horse to beat in the Grade 1, $402,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes at Hollywood Park because she brings the best credentials in the Starlet Stakes.
The race will be held at Hollywood Park on 10 December, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles on synthetic surface restricted for 2-year-old fillies.
The New York bred daughter of Sunriver, out of mare Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake, Weemissfrankie started her journey from Del Mar where at first asking she broke her maiden impressively in the five furlong dash under R Bejarano on 20 July, 2011.
She covered the distance in 58.39 seconds over Del Mar’s synthetic surface. Stayed at Del Mar, Weemissfrankie went for Grade 1 status when she ran in the Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs and achieved her target on 3 September, 2011.
She owned the synthetic surface yet again, with a devastating run victimizing Self Preservation on the way, finishing second on the day while Emerald Gold turned in third.
Santa Anita Park was the next destination for Peter Eurton trained filly, and it was time she was tested with a longer run of 1 1/16 miles in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes. The versatility level was tested as well, as she was switched from synthetic to dirt
for the first time.
With significant changes in order, Weemissfrankie kept her winning record intact as she bolted down the stretch coming off the pace to run down Candrea, who finished second and Charm the Maker in third while she bagged the race with the winning time of 1
minute and 42.92 seconds.
Runners who do well at Del Mar and Santa Anita tend to falter at Churchill Downs, and same was the case with Weemissfrankie as she showed her disliking of the track like many others, but still managed a placed finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Fillies.
She finished third to winner My Miss Aurelia and runner up Grace Hall at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt on 4 November, 2011, as My Miss Aurelia covered the distance in 1 minute and 46 seconds.
