Weemissfrankie refuses to go down as she bagged another big race, the Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita
The 2-year-old filly Weemissfrankie was quiet impressive in the Grade 1 $250,000 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita on 2 October, 2011, as she ran her unbeaten streak to 3, jumping up to 1 1/16 miles from 7 furlongs in her last race.
Her scintillating late running tally earned her a spot in the Grade 1, $2million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on 4 November.
Previously, Weemissfrankie broke her maiden in her first attempt at the Del Mar’s synthetic surface, and topped the five furlong distance in 58.39 seconds on 20 July, 2011.
Her second start was also at Del Mar on its synthetic surface in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante on 3 September, 2011, at about seven furlongs under jockey Rafael Bejarano who also helped the juvenile filly break her maiden.
Weemissfrankie, destroyed Self Preservation to top the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 23.20 seconds. After her Del Mar Debutante Stakes win and the Oak Leaf Stakes win now, certainly makes her the favourite to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
In the Oak Leaf Stakes, Rafael Bejarano was aboard Weemissfrankie, broke well out of the gate as she faced rivals from the Del Mar Debutante Self Preservation the Debutante runner up, Wild Truffles and Silent Saga.
All failed to make an impact except Weemissfrankie as she came off the pace steady in third position at the sixteenth pole on the far outside.
The daughter of Sunriver, shook over under strong urging from jockey Rafael Bejarano as she closed in a couple of lengths in the deep stretch and further drove up to Candrea  just half a length short.
This was her first start on dirt in the 1 1/16 mile Oak Leaf Stakes, as Weemissfrankie was sent at the 9 to 5 odds.
Candrea stubbornly clung on to the lead through the entire lane, but Weemissfrankie’s late charge was enough for her to seal the win and she covered the distance of 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 42.92 seconds.
The win upped Weemissfrankie’s earnings to $337,800, with 3 wins in as many starts.
