Weemissfrankie returned to Peter Eurton’s barn after a positive prognosis on her surgery
The juvenile filly, Weemissfrankie, underwent a surgery after coming out of the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet, and that is where the injury was discovered when she was sent off as the 9 to 10 favourite to win the race. She had a bad stumble coming out of her
gate and it is believed that was the point where she suffered a non-displaced condylar fracture of her right foreleg.
Three days ago, surgery was done on her foreleg and the prognosis is ‘Very good’. “The surgery went excellent,” Eurton said of the Dec. 11 operation performed by Dr. Wayne McIlwraith at Los Alamitos. “I just got the e-mail from Dr. McIlwraith. The prognosis
is very good.
“One s***w was put in. The fracture was non-displaced.”
The 2-year-old New York bred daughter of Sunriver, out of mare Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake, Weemissfrankie retured to trainer Peter Eurton’s stable on 14 December, 2011.
Peter Eurton is hoping that her star juvenile filly will return to the races in the Del Mar meet or if everything goes well and according to plan, there shouldn’t be a reason that the filly is taken out on the tracks this fall at Santa Anita.
“We can start hand-walking her in 14 days,” Eurton said. “She will stay here for 45 days. She might start aqua-tread work in three months. In four months, we could start jogging her.”
Her connections will give her time to shake the surgery and the injury off, and she will probably return to light training in about 4 months.
Owned by Sharon Alesia, Rob Dyrdek, Bran Jam Stable and Ciaglia Racing, Weemissfrankie proved her mettle and showed how good she is when she established herself as the top filly in the West Coast with victories in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante on 3 September,
2011, where she defeated Self Preservation and topped the 7 furlong dash in 1 minute and 23.20 seconds.
She then landed the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita to go 3 of 3 as she downed Candrea in second place to cover the 1 1/16 miles distance in 1 minute and 42.92 seconds on 2 October, 2011.
