Weemissfrankie strikes and wins again at Del Mar
On 3rd September, 2011, Weemissfrankie made her mark at the Polytrack, making her second start turn into a victory which by no mean is a negligible deal. Rafael Bejarano’s mount made him win an astounding $250,000 at the Grade1 Del Mar Debutante.
“It couldn’t have turned out any better," Eurton said.
She won by an amazing 1 ¼ lengths, gradually sweeping away her rivals through the track even though she was positioned sixth at the beginning. She completed the seven-furlong race of two year old fillies in 1:23:20. Self Preservation secured the second position
while Emerald Gold stood third.
It proved to be a big day for all the connections of Weemissfrankie as the trainer, Peter Eurton made his first ever first graded stakes win with the New York bred star filly from Survivor out of the Meadowlake mare Starinthemeadow.
It is no coincidence that her name reminds everyone, especially the fans of the late Hollywood actor Frank Alesia, who even was the part of the ownership group with his wife Sharon.
Besides the jockey and the trainer, the filly has been nothing short of pride for the other co-owners Mike Mellen's Bran Jam Stable, Joe Ciaglia's Ciaglia Stable, Rob Dyrdek, and Nick Cosato.
“This means a lot to me, but more for the (ownership) group," Eurton said. "I’ve never won a group I, or a group race of any kind for that matter”.
The filly kept up with the level of expectation which she had developed previously when she ran on 20th July at Del Mar, rushing for the finishing line from seventh at mid stretch to win by a half length with like this time, Bejarano aboard. It
was at this race that the chestnut broke her maiden.
The proud jockey cherishes riding on the filly as he believes that she has a remarkable class and her mental part seems to be quite dominant, nothing bothers her when she is riding. Bejarano has his reservations with the same situation being prevalent in
the future too but is hopeful at the same time. He said:
“We’ll see how it goes. (There are) a lot of things to come and hopefully we can go to where we want to go with her”.
Hoping to get hold of his seventh victory was Dreamcaster, 2-1 with Weemissfrankie. Trailing behind them for the line were Woebegon, Evelyn’s Dancer and Coup de Coeur. Even after half a mile Weemissfrankie was the one at the seventh position racing behind
the early leaders.
However very soon she broke free from the trance of following the leader and started leading the lot, consequently making it the first time for Bejarano at the Debutate. She has quite effortlessly pleased her connections throughout and her future races would
reflect that or not is subject to her future races.
