Weemissfrankie targets the Hollywood Starlet after the Breeders’ Cup run
After got beaten nine lengths by My Miss Aurelia in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on 4 November, 2011, California's most accomplished 2-year-old filly, Weemissfrankie sets sights on the Grade 1, $250,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes to be held at Hollywood Park on 10 December, 2011, over synthetic surface at about 1 1/16 miles strictly for 2-year-old fillies.
Owned by Sharon Alesia, Rob Dyrdek, Bran Jam Stable and Ciaglia Racing, Weemissfrankie turned in a workout session of four furlongs ahead of the Hollywood Starlet at Hollywood Park, where she covered the distance in 47.60 seconds.
“It’s looking pretty solid,” said Eurton, “It seemed like a gallop. She will work again next Saturday.”
Already a multiple grade 1 winner, the New York bred daughter of Sunriver, out of Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake, Weemissfrankie kicked off her debut at Del Mar on 20 July 2011, when she broke her maiden defeating Lady Fairbanks in second and Love My Way in third.
Over at the Del Mar’s synthetic surface, Weemissfrankie ran over a distance of five furlongs under Rafael Bejarano and she topped the distance in 58.39 seconds.
Her connections preferred the Del Mar’s synthetic surface for her next start and pointed her toward the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante.
Over at seven furlongs on 3 September, 2011, under Rafael Bejarano Weemissfrankie was up against the likes of Self Preservation.
It wasn’t much of a contest when Weemissfrankie broke free from the lot in the final stages of the race to win the Grade 1 Debutante while Self Preservation had to make peace with being second beston the day. To finish third was Emerald Gold while Weemissfrankie finished the race with the winning time of 1 minute and 23.20 seconds.
After Weemissfrankie proved that she was the best Californian 2-year-old filly, her connections sent her up state to participate in the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course.
The surface switch was a clear indication that the juvenile filly is being readied for the Breeders’ Cup. Her response to the change was fantastic as she drew clear to win the Oak Leaf as well defeating the all so threatening Candrea.
