Weemissfrankie to extend her unbeaten record to three in a row in the Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita
The unbeaten 2-year-old filly Weemissfrankie will be the part of 10 horse field in the Grade 1 $250,000 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita on 2 October, 2011.
Trained by Peter Eurton for owners Sharon Alesia, Rob Dyrdek, Bran Jam Stable and Ciaglia Racing, Weemissfrankie has run two races in her first year of racing, and she hasn’t been tried on two turns yet as she takes on the distance of 1 1/16 miles for the
first time in the Pak Leaf Stakes.
The daughter of Sunriver, out of Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake, is a New York bred filly and she broke her maiden on 20 July, 2011, in her first attempt at Del Mar over a distance of 5 furlongs.
Rajiv Maragh was aboard Weemissfrankie in the maiden special weight race over the Del Mar’s synthetic surface, and the pair covered the distance in 58.39 seconds defeating Lady Fairbanks and Love My Way, they finished second and third, respectively.
Peter Eurton impressed with his juvenile filly, pointed her to the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, where Weemissfrankie truly blossomed as she maneuvered expertly under Rajiv Maragh and won the 7 furlong long race in 1 minute and 23.20 seconds also at Del Mar
on 3 September, 2011.
This will be a major shift of surfaces for Weemissfrankie, as she will be tried on dirt but trainer Peter Eurton is no worried about it, he says that he loves it how she is moving over the dirt right now.
Weemissfrankie worked on the Santa Anita’s main track recently, as she will mark her first race on traditional dirt having won her first two starts on Del Mar’s synthetic Poly Track.
The juvenile filly will face most of her Debutante rivals in the Oak Leaf Stakes, and the rivals returning for the Debutante are runner up Self Preservation, Wild Truffles who finished fourth, turned in fifth position Killer Graces, Silent Saga sixth and
the seventh placed filly, Dreamcaster.
Trainer Bob Baffert who have gone on to win the Oak Leaf Stakes seven times now, has entered Dreamcaster and a stakes winner at Fairplex on 16 September, Candrea.
