Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012: Stacy Lewis improves position in the second round
Stacy Lewis improved her position in the second round of the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, after she posted a 72, surging to the 12th from the 17th spot.
Lewis, who started her season in an impressive style, appears to have kept the momentum going in the major tournament.
She kicked off the second round with confidence, as she parred the first two holes and made a birdie on the par-4 3rd.
Lewis faltered on the 4th hole, but stunned the spectators once again when she fired another birdie on the difficult par-3 5th.
She has racked up two LPGA titles in the current season — something analyst said has kept her in high spirits. She grabbed attention when she won the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in April and the ShopRite LPGA classic last week.
Analysts said that Lewis has proved that she can beat big names, and this year has proved lucky for her.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Lewis said that she had to face tough time on some holes, but managed to hold her nerve. The American prodigy added that the course is tricky, which is troubling most of the players.
“It's a lot tougher than the last couple of years. The rough is long, but it's the longest, it's the longest right off the fairways. So you barely miss the fairway, and you don't have a shot,” Lewis said.
She went on to say that she could not get to a good start, as she had trouble making balanced strokes.
“My round was a little up and down. I gave a few away, just not really playing smart. But I was lucky a couple of times and got a couple back. So overall it was pretty solid”.
“There is a couple of things I could have done better. I'm hanging in there, and I am happy with it,” the golfing sensation said.
When asked about what she thinks of her long-time rivals like Paula Creamer and Yani Tseng, Lewis said that she did not expect Tseng to score so poor. She said that she was a little surprised to see the top-ranked prodigy make too many careless putts.
