Wei Feng Chong paves his path to pre quarter-finals of 2013 Australian Badminton Open
Malaysia’s talented shuttler Wei Feng Chong alarmed the entire contestant by sealing a splendid straight-set victory in second round of Yonex Australian Badminton Open on April 3, 2013.
He was up against Yogendran Khrishnan in the local badminton complex of Sydney and their encounter remained in full swing for 34 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-17 and 21-14.
Wei Feng, who holds the fourth spot in tournament ranking, showed his intentions straight away in the beginning and served notice of his supremacy by winning both sets on merit.
He did not give his rival even a single chance to perform and reserved a spot in the pre quarter-final round of the tournament.
On the other hand, Yogendran could not revive his lost form and bid adieu to the event in a woeful manner.
The battle heated up when Wei Feng launched an intensive attack and ruled the court in couple of consecutive rallies.
He relished full benefits of this initial advantage and strengthened his grip by adding few valuable points in his total. This flow helped him to finish first half of the set with a respectable margin.
After the mid-game break, things went out of control as the Malaysian campaigner lost focus for a short span of time and allowed his competitor to comeback.
However, he managed to end this bad patch and reinstated his dominance when it mattered. He bagged several points in a row and wrapped this segment with an impressive result of 21-17.
The second set of match proved a one-sided affair as Wei Feng did not give his opponent even a single counterattack opportunity and sent him packing with a staggering knock.
At first, he mounted pressure by clinching many points without any interruption and then doubled the impact by putting a mountainous figure of 11.
After the one-minute interval, the Malaysian shuttler played with a cautious approach. However, he did not take much time to gain the right momentum and cruised to victory with an overwhelming score.
Wei Feng placed a winning margin of 21-14 and qualified for the pre quarter-finals of Australian Open.
