Wei Feng Chong powers his way to final round of 2012 National Circuit Grand Prix Finals
Men’s Singles campaigner Wei Feng Chong of Malaysia stretched his winning streak in the semi-final round of Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals and thrashed Goh Soon Huat on December 29, 2012.
He took just two games to wrap this showdown in a favourable manner. He looked completely on song while piling up concluding figures of 21-10 and 21-14.
World Number 21 Wei Feng setup his title match clash with another compatriot shuttler Misbun Ramdan Bin Mohmed Misbun.
In his semi-final match, he did not give his challenger even a single counterattack opportunity and sent him packing with 2-0 margin.
The other Malaysian player Goh Soon remained at the lower end in most part of the battle. First sign of trouble came when he lost five consecutive points immediately in the beginning of first set.
He could not make amends throughout this crucial game and allowed his rival to establish a significant lead.
Wei Feng did not fritter away this opportunity and finished first half of the set with a notable difference of seven points.
He resumed his campaign with 11-4 total and made best out of this psychological edge in latter part of the game.
AT first, he kept a low profile but then stunned his opponent with a series of power packed smashes. This authoritative approach yielded good result and he pocketed seven valuable points after 13-9 margin.
Wei Feng registered a winning figure of 21-10 and put his challenger under huge pressure.
Goh Soon Huat could not perform under pressure condition and knelt down tamely also in the following game.
This time he repeated previous mistakes and let six valuable points slip from his hands in the beginning.
This initial lead helped Wei Feng to establish his grip over the game. He played with great precision in next couple of rallies and put a decent total of 11 before the half time.
After the one-minute break, he did not lose focus and forced his rival to surrender with a staggering knock of 21-14.
Now the critics are giving him better odds for the title match as he will be up against a lower ranked Malaysian player.
