Wei Feng Chong stuns Sho Sasaki in Men’s Singles first round at Li Ning China Open – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng could not have imagined for a better start as he put up stunning show and showed exit to his higher ranked Japanese rival in Men’s Singles first round at Li Ning China Open 2012 on Wednesday, November 14, in China.
The left-handed Wei Feng, who is currently ranked at number 26 in Men’s Singles world placements, was in tremendous form as he did not show any respect to the sixth seeded Sasaki and won the battle in just 33 minutes.
Wei Feng was in staggering shape as he played with greater level of confidence and remained successful in thrashing his Japanese rival in straight sets with a crushing margin.
The higher ranked Sasaki, on the other hand, failed to cope up with the mounting pressure and remained unable to match speed of his in-form Malaysian challenger. He lost this opening round battle without creating a strong impact.
In the first game, the un-seeded Wei Feng showed a strong character as he did not let his rival to dominate the pace of rallies and remained successful in setting up an early lead.
Wei Feng was incredibly quick in getting the bird early and remained ahead on the score board without facing any problem.
Until the one-minute break, it was the impressive Wei Feng who managed to take a reasonable lead on score board.
In the concluding half, Sasaki tried to play attacking badminton but remained unable to destroy the incredible defence of his Malaysian challenger.
On the other hand, the aggressive play of Wei Feng assisted him to stay ahead all the way and he managed to win the set with a superb 21-13 score on the board.
In the following game, Sasaki increased his speed to play positive badminton and remained successful in remaining close to his opponent until the one-minute break.
However, it was Wei Feng who showed superb performance in the ending phase of second game as he played with incredible speed and took the set with a margin of 21-16.
Wei Feng registered a comprehensive victory over his higher ranked challenger Sasaki in straight sets with an inspiring 21-13 and 21-16 score on the board.
