Wei Sheng Loh stuns Anton Kaisti in qualifying round clash at Finnish Open 2012 – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Wei Sheng Loh displayed spectacular show in his Men’s Singles qualifying round as he defeated Finland’s Anton Kaisti in an elevated fashion at Finnish Open 2012 on Thursday, March 29, in Finland.
Wei Sheng was in tremendous form when he troubled Kaisti who was the favourite to win this contest. However, the Malaysian defied all odds and thrashed the Finnish in straight games.
The spirited Malaysian shuttler played to his maximum potential in the court and remained successful in winning the match in straight sets by taking just 31 minutes.
On the other hand, the home favourite Kaisti could not dominate the game at any stage and also failed to create pressure on his opponent. He lost the match in two games with a narrow margin on the score board.
In the opening set, both shuttlers played fast badminton but no one could manage a decent lead on the board as they were quite positive in their play.
They kept the tempo of rallies quite fast and remained close until the end of first half.
Kaisti tried to take lead but failed because his opponent had better answers to all of his shots. He remained struggling to dominate and dictate the pace of rallies.
On the other hand, Wei Sheng played with courage as he manipulated all loopholes of his opponent. He remained aggressive in the whole set and managed to win it with a tight score of 21-19.
In the second set, Kaisti again failed to set up an early lead as his opponent was in complete control of rallies. Both shuttlers were positive in the game and were close until the 60-second break.
After the interval, they continued playing in the same thrilling fashion and reached at the ending phase without setting up even a small gap.
The score reached at the heart-throbbing stage of 23-23 when Wei Sheng showed his brilliance and scored two consecutive points and won the set with a dramatic score of 25-23.
Wei Sheng won this 31-minute Men’s Singles qualifying-round clash in straight sets with a 21-19 and 25-23 margin on the score board.
