Weigh too much for horse?

Is 168lbs too heavy or OK to ride for a 14.2hh medium weight cob? Thanks.

  1. You should be ok.  I believe that a horse can carry up to a third its own weight. So if your horse weighs 504 pounds you will be ok.


  2. It would probably be fine, as long as the pony is pretty stocky and you're not riding it too hard.

  3. um.. it depends how stocky the horse is since its a cob, then its prolly fine.

  5. i think he would be fine if it was just a little walking and trotting around an arena or something. But if they wanted to do more serious or advanced stuff, it might be best to find something a tad bigger.

  8. cobs are stocky well built animals.  Barring health problems it is fine.

  9. You should be fine to ride your pony.  My American Gaited pony is 14.2 and my husband rides him from time to time when I'm too busy to get him ridden.  My husband weighs 190lbs.  Of course, my pony is in great shape as he is ridden very often and for long periods of time.
