Do yo think it is healthy for a fighter to scale down by not drinking or eating so they can achieve a weight limit. just to put it all back on 36hrs later. also do you think it is fair for a fighter to weigh in one night but fight at a different one come the night of the fight?

  1. Well, Ruddiger pretty much covered the health part. So, I'll just go on to say that I feel the weigh-ins, in my opinion, would be done on the same day of the fight.... probably 8-10 hours before their scheduled bout.

  2. No, it is certainly unhealthy to dehydrate yourself for a weigh-in.

Thing is, almost every fighter south of heavyweight does it, and they would still do it (as they all have in the past) if the weigh-in was on the same day.

It was not uncommon for fighters in the 80s to weigh-in a few hours before the fight, and enter the ring 10 to 15 lbs heavier.

The reason most state athletic commissions switched to the 24-hour weigh-in was because fighters were being permanently injured or killed in the ring due to issues related to dehydration.

It's still unhealthy, but at least the fighters have a full day to rehydrate themselves, as opposed to the ridiculous and unnecessary danger involved with weighing-in on the same day.

  3. I disagree with day before weigh ins, it should be after noon of to prevent boxers from doing it.

It does not hurt them no, If they do it wrong it may take some stamina out of them, but if you can have a 20 lbs weight advantage over your opponent that negates the con's of doing it.

But it defiantly has to be stopped before someone gets seriously hurt.

60% or so of your body weight is water. What they do is 2 to 3 days before the weight in they stop drinking fluids and munch on light calorie free snacks, they wear a plastic body suit then workout hard, wear it in a steam room and sweat the water out of them selves totally dehydrating them selves. Then they take a pill about 12 hours before weigh in that causes them to **** and p iss everything out of them.

Then after weight in they slowly start drinking fluids, eat a big steak that night, and by the next weight all that weight is back on so they can weigh up to or more then 20 lbs over the weight limit by fight night.
