Question:

Weight gain in pregnancy?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and I am still the same weight as I was before I was pregnant. I have had no sickness or not been off food and have been eating what I feel like (within reason and have been healthy). Before I was pregnant all I had to do was look at a bar of chocolate and I would gain weight. All the websites etc say that a gain of 5-10 pounds is normal by now but I have gained nothing. Im not complaining, dont get me wrong, but was just wondering if anyone else had been the same. We heard the heartbeat last week so Im sure everything is fine. Does this sound ok to other people?

Thanks .. sorry to sound silly but this is my first pregnancy and everything I seem to have expected has been opposite .. lol.

  1. I'm 38 weeks and have only gained 18lbs through my pregnancy and I'm not a big person just very physically fit . Everyone is different . Most of my weight happened in my 3rd Trimester and my baby will be well over 7lbs :)

  2. Well, I'm 7 months (27 weeks) and I've probably gained maybe 2-3 lbs. I guess it all just depends on your metabolism and your weight before pregnancy.

  3. i dont think is bad, as long as you have regular check ups with your doctor, i actually dropped 6 lbs. and recently i gained 2 lbs. so it makes a  total of -4 lbs. but the doctor says its ok

  4. Totally normal.  A lot of women actually lose weight in the first half of the pregnancy.  I lost 7 lbs and then hit 24 weeks and gained 13.  Don't worry, it's all normal.  Every person is different.

  5. very normal, give it another 10 weeks hun, after 27 weeks it hit me, haha, easy enough to shift tho x x all the best

  6. Im sure you and baby are fine.  You know your metabolism speeds up in second trimester.

  7. Hi dont worry i lost weight at the start of my pregnacy and didnt put on weight 4 the 1st half of my pregnacy the last 2 weeks i blew up like a ballon lol but my friend who just had her baby put on alot of weight through out her pregnacy ended up loosing weight about a month b4 she was due so every1 is different

good luck with ur 1st baby when he/she comes:) xx

  8. I'm 20.5 weeks and only recently passed my pre-pregnancy weight. But I was sick in the first trimester. I gained like 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks of knowing I was pregnant b/c I'm a small girl anyway so I totally stuffed my face, then I lost 10 pounds from that, putting me at like 5 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. It took a while after 14 weeks to get my appetite back up to normal and since then I've been ever so slowly gaining. In my situation I feel like I have to work really hard to gain weight because I'm very small boned and although doctors gave up on trying to fatten me up when I was a baby/toddler, saying I was just thin, according to the charts I'm underweight so now that I am pregnant I feel like even more so I'm going to be judged if I don't gain enough weight. My midwife whose very first measurement of me was after that first 5 pound gain is still after me to shovel down the protein but I definitely get lots of protein every day and am eating mostly healthy and somewhat junk-foody just like before I was pregnant so I'm not worried. I know lots of tricks to try to help gain weight but overall I found that my body and my appetite are perfectly healthy and normal right now.

Every person and every pregnancy is different. I know how you feel about everything you expected to be the opposite. Just continue to listen to your doc, voice your concerns to him or her, and eat a healthy, well-balanced diet with 200-300 extra calories now that you are past the first trimester. For my extra calories I like a nice bowl of real chocolate ice cream like Breyers (not that skim milk dairy dessert stuff they have so much of in the freezer these days).

  9. Similar story here, and all is well! By 18 weeks I had only gained 2 pounds, and at 21 weeks, I've gained a total of 4 pounds. Every woman's body is different. People expected me to gain more weight becaue I'm thin and petite and because I didn't have any morning sickness. I've been eating well, I feel great, and my doctor says that my weight is very healthy. I've also been able to exercise during my pregnancy, although I have to do it carefully now because of placenta previa.

This is my first pregnancy, and my husband and I both asked the doctor what she thought about my very small weight gain, and she said that I'm healthy. She also said that starting in the second half of the 2nd trimester (about now) the weight gain will pick up a little bit.

Don't worry about it. As long as you're feeling well and your doctor or midwife thinks you're healthy, you are!

  10. I lost 20 lbs with my first daughter in the first 3 months and only had mild morning sickness.  If you have been eating healthy now, but didn't in the past, your body is just using your fat stores and puting them to better use!!!

  11. my aunt is aboout 25 weeks and has actually lost 5 pounds and the doctor says she's fine and the baby is great! everyone is different, I guess!
