Had a baby on the 8th of this month and I was 176.5lbs now just 3 weeks later I am 180lbs! I have no clue why this is, I am breastfeeding around the clock every two hours, he eats a lot. I am not freaking gorging down food. I have as follows as an example "over a 24hour period" because right now I live hour by hour with a newborn not regular hours it's so hectic and I'm so so tired.

4am-1 serv shredded wheat with 1/4 milk

8am-2 slices toast and 3 eggs with cheese

12noon-1 glass of choc. soy milk

3pm-blue berry muffin

5banana

8pm-1 serv. tuna casserole

1am-yogurt with blue berries

ok remember this is over 24hrs

I am 5"6 and I know with breastfeeding I should be eating about 2,300 calories and I did not think I was going over so why do I weigh more!?

  1. Wow we nearly weigh the same! I just had a baby girl on July 29. I was 178 when I went in to have her, and have now gained 5 lbs! I wonder if it's because I was comparably more active while pregnant (trying to get baby down). Our diets sound very similar.

Be sure your scale is set right. Other than that I would guess if you're feeling up to it a walk with baby would be good for you. The same goes for me.

Good luck and congratulations on the baby =)

  2. I wouldn't cut back on calories just yet.  I don't know what's causing it, but you should take it easy for a little bit.  Your body is still recovering from childbirth and you need the rest.

  3. Well, if you still have stitches in, you may still have some swelling or excess fluid that is still working its way out, so I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. Also, you are probably very aware of how your hormones shift during pregnancy, but that doesn't really change too much once the pregnancy is over.

Also, if you are REALLY drinking lots of water, there could be some water weight factored in there as well.

And the scale you are using can make a difference too; especially with that 'small' of a difference.

I wouldn't recommend doing too much heavy exercise until the baby is sleeping through the night. Walking around the house while you feed should suffice for now. If you're sleep deprived, heavy exercise is the last thing you need.

And that is a good number of calories.  You may not be pregnant anymore, but as long as you are breastfeeding, you are eating for 2 (or at lease 1.5). :D And the fact you take it in over the course of small snacks/meals is best. I would keep with what you are doing for now. 4 lbs difference right now is not worth fussing over.

  4. take out the 4 am take out the 1 am and the 8 pm feedings.  do alot of excerzise.  replace the 8 am meal with the 4 am meal at 3 pm do fruit .  It is the type of food your eating.  Eat more fruits and veggies.  also work out.  I know our tired but during nap time work out.

  5. Are you sure your scale is working properly? Are you drinking a lot of water?
