Question:

Weight loss after baby?

by  |  earlier

I had my baby 7 weeks ago and I was given the ok to start exercising last week. I started walking and trying to eat healthier right after I had him and just recently started going to the gym a few times a week. My problem is I'm having a really hard time finding the motivation to eat healthier and get in shape. I was a little over weight to begin with and now I'm still carrying 10 lbs. of my baby weight. I just wanted to know what are some good ways to get back in shape and start eating healthier. Also, any easy to make and filling recipes would be great. I'm so used to the way I ate when I was pregnant! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  1. only 10 lbs?? wow that is great!  sounds like you are doing better then you think.  i gained 50 lbs with my daughter.  she is now 4 and a half months old and I still have 10 lbs to loose.  i have found that taking her for walks is great for both of us.  she loves it and it is great exercise.  i also try to eat lots of fruit it fills me up so i don't want to eat as much at meal times.  i can't get over you only having to 10 lbs and your baby is only seven weeks.  im telling you it sounds like you should be sharing ur weight loss plan with all of us!!!  good luck

  2. You REALLY need to get started. If you wait to long, it'll just be harder to loose, and I'm sure that you don't want to be one of those people who blame their shape on the baby.

When I had my baby, After five weeks after the birth, I went straight to the gym. You really don't need to go on a diet. As long as you bare eating heathly foods, you can eat however much as you want. Strawberries, Bananas, Cantalope, and stuff like that are very good for people trying to loose weight, so as long as you have plenty of those, you can eat alot and still get the benefits.

You should ask the Gym trainer what are some good foods for you to eat to loose weight and buy alot of those foods to eat. When you eat healthy food and exercise, it's very good and you will get the best results that way. After I was pregnant, I went to the fruit market and bought thousands of fruits and I ate them when I got hungry. Even though I ate alot, because of the fact that they were fruits, it actually helped me.

  3. Taking the baby for walks in the stroller is always a good way to get the whole family involved while working out.

Remember that you JUST had a baby 7 weeks ago and your body is still no where's "back to normal" yet.  Just cause the doc gave the ok to start working out doesn't mean your body is fully ready yet.

Keep pre-cut veggies/fruits and low fat dips/dressings in the fridge so they are easily accessible.  This will help you stay on track by not having to actually "prepare" the meal everytime you want a snack.  Have your hubby get involved too.  Drink plenty of water too.

Weight Watchers is great and allows you to eat normal food!!!  I lost 22 lbs. when I was on it.  Felt great.

  4. Try the 100 push up challenge and alternate with a situp challenge on off days....my husband and I are enjoying the competition and it doesn't take much time (which is a requirement with 3 kids and a dog to look after!).

Our favourite meal is to barbeque chicken with a lemon spice, toss some veggies with olive oil & salad herbs and grill in a basket on the bbq, and cook up some rice or garlic roasted potatoes - super quick and easy and healthy too.  For dessert you can satisfy a sweet tooth with fresh fruit (grapes, melons, pineapple, strawberries...) and no-fat vanilla yougurt.  mmmmmm

Post-partum depression can make it very difficult to get motivated for anything let alone for excercise....maybe look into a New Mother walking group or weekly drop in so that you can connect with others who are going through the same things as you - knowing it isn't just you might be all the motivation you need!
