This is needed for the replacement of a 100 year old house roof tank which is corroded and far too large for our house requiements today.

  1. I always use 8# per gallon. I think its slightly less, but good for what you are using it for.

    I was wrong-water has 7.4 gal/cu ft.

    Water weighs 8.33 lb/gal

One cu ft of water weighs 62.31 lb.

  2. 1 cubic foot of water   = 6.24 Imperial gallons

1 Imperial gallon of water   = 10 pounds

  3. 62.3 lb/ft^3 at 70°F

  4. 64 lbs

  5. It would be easier to work in litres.  A litre of water weighs about a kilo.

  6. Not really sure what you mean. If it helps, a gallon of water weighs 10lbs. Most plastic cold water storage water tanks hold around 40 or 50 gallons. If you need to keep the weight down, opt for the smaller one bearing it mind that the hot water cylinder may only have 30 gallons, or less, to be replaced at bath time. And even then the mains fed ballcock is making up the c/w storage tank all the time a h/w tap runs.

If you have a shower fed from the h/w cylinder it's worth placing the c/w storage tank high in the loft as you will improve flow to upstairs showers.
