Could I get some advice on what weight training exercises that I should do that are geared towards the muscle groups/specific motions used in the great game of rugby(or maybe even position specific)? I'm a lock.

  1. Do some core strength work to help with scrummaging.  Such has holding a plank position, sit-ups on the swiss ball, et. al.  Also strengthen your back from top to bottom. I'd also do a whole lot of lunges with a barbell on your shoulders. Do them fowards backwards, and side step with it.  Finally, once you are sure you have decent form, I'd do some Olympic lifts like hang cleans, deadlifts or power cleans-Not too heavy though so you can focus on repeated bursts of power rather than just a couple big ones...then again, I'm a flanker.

  2. depends what code you mean

the best start is resistance training giving power in your legs to drive forward

the pool pr dragging a tyre as you run are good ways along with a bungee rope

other than that you have to see your coach and ask what he is looking for from you

if your a union player and he wants the ball going back into the ruch then you need bulk

if your in league its more speed and ability to go through the collision

either way enjoy your rugby and stay healthy

  3. Me and my team have been working with Kettlebells this past month and the workouts are killer.

Search the workouts online and see if your gym has any. You can work your core and legs simultaneously.... 2 essential parts to a locks power.
