I have up to this point trained with weights for power but now am planning to lower the weight and go for power that lasts. I know I'm suppose to shoot for 15+ reps but how fast should I lift and how fast should I lower. I'm training for muay thai , jujitsu and judo....

  1. Take steroids.

    Nah just kiddin.

It seems like your going for endurance training? You shouldn't really lower the weight though. The rests that you take between sets should be less, though.

I guess you could do 15 reps, so long as by the 15 rep, your struggling to make it. You shouldn't breeze through it.

Your lift and lower should be the same speed. Lowering is just as important as the lift in many cases.

  2. a lot of martial arts is explosion. I would say that you should do quick lifts and slower lowers on your your sets. If you go on youtube and watch sean sherks training or any others a lot of it is just explosive workouts. Also a lot of the muscles you need will come from just doing the sport

  3. Traditional weightlifting schedules are 4 days a week, one day lifting, one recuperating.   15+ reps is for endurance and shaping, not size.  It is never a goal of mine to ever lower the weight once I have achieved the ability to lift that much.  Take some protein and creatine, and add some mass like I am and do some damage in your MA of choice!
