Weird PS2 problem... ?

For some reason, my playstation 2 always does this: it won't read any disc, even brand new ones, but suddenly at 4 pm it starts to read discs normally. I don't know how this happens, but it is very weird. Does this happen to anyone else?

Weird... That is messed. Try changing the clock settings on your PS2 to always after 4 o clock. Then you can see if it's actually the time of day, or something else.

Is there anything in your house on the same circuit that uses power during a set time? Or... Wow I have no idea except that first one, but it's more troubleshooting than fixing. Sorry.

What kind of PS2 is it? Slim? Silver one? One of the first-gen ones?

Try unplugging your PlayStation 2 for about 5 - 10 minutes. then plug it back in. then try resetting the clock. if that doesn't help, poke around at http://www.us.playstation.com/Support?re... for awhile and see if you see the problem anywhere else. then try calling Sony's service center. That's Really Weird.

That's probably a sign of dying laser. Try to clean it with a cotton bud, slightly dumped in a rubbing alcohol.

I think the time is most likely a coincidence.  The laser in the drive is probably going out, its only a matter of time til it will stop working entirely.
