We are going to Peru in August 2007 and my kids, ages 12 and 11 want to know if there is an abercrombie or hollister there. They have clothes from abercrombie stating that it was made in Peru. This is a weird question but, they wanted to know. If you can answer soon that would be great. Thanks, and please, dont criticize my kids.

  1. Your kids better buy Abercrombie or Hollister in the States. Several brands (Tommy, Ralph Lauren, Polo, Abercrombie, XOXO, etc) have contracts with local peruvian factories to produce their clothes, at a much cheaper price than in the States. In Peru we have one of the best cotton in the world and it is quite cheap to produce these clothes. However, these factories are strictly forbidden to sell the products in Peru as they are for export only. Some clothing which do not meet export quality will be sold in special places (like black markets or outlet factories) but peruvian people are not supposed to buy them as it is considered illegal and the factories may get a high fine for this.

They are not produced in sweat shops like some answerer stated, these are legal factories.

There are also many "phony" or "pirate" Abercrombie (and other brands) being sold in Peru at very cheap prices (like Tolish says) but they are not the real thing, believe me I know for a fact.

I wouldn't criticize your kids, on the contrary, they have a sharp brain to have spotted something like that and wondered if in Peru these brands would be cheaper. They are actually cheaper ar Marshalls!

  2. I don't think that there would be an Abercrombie shop in Peru. The tops I bought from Abercrombie were made in Vietnam. I think it's just cheaper to have the clothes made there. We only have one Abercrombie and Fitch in England, and that doesn't even sell kids clothes, plus you can't order Abercrombie kids stuff online (apart from Ebay) if you live in the UK. I would think it's even less likely that you can buy Hollister outside the US apart from on Ebay, and I've never seen any kids clothes by them.

It's a good question though! Have a star for your kids from me :)

  3. That's a great question, your chill'rens is very astute.

As to an answer: In the more cosmopolitan cities ( well, city ) they may have one in the ...mall (?), but don't expect to see villagers rockin' the abercrombie look...

  4. Your kids are goona go crazy here!! Peru exports  Abrecrombie, Hollister, Guess, Rockawear, Nautica etc etc. and they are VERY VERY CHEAP.

Go to Av. Larco, in miraflores just across from the townhall, theres 2 stores, one is called LA QUINTA and the other one doesnt have a name, but is 3 stores away from LA QUINTA. There, you can find all of this brands VERY CHEAP, im talking about $3, $1....your kids are gonna be sooooooo happy!

  5. No Abercrombie or Hollister in Peru. There are textile plants in Peru that make the clothes for Abercrombie and Hollister. I sometimes go to those plants to buy from their excess production. They also make stuff for Land's end, Cacharel and Polo. Most of the plants are in Lima around an industrial area called "Urbanización Vulcano"

  6. The cotton in Peru is of very high quality, you`ll see nice apartment stores. Ripley ,pronounced ( REPLAY ) and Saga B....are two stores who carry fine clothing. Also lots of replica-wear too ( fakes ) Buyer beware !

  7. The clothes are probably made in Peruvian sweatshops that pay hardly anything then get shipped to expensive stores in USA.
