Weird Word Document thing. Please help?

Question

I have a bunch of word documents that I type for school and work. Every time I have gone to My Documents, all my files have been shown in black fonts, for example "English Essay" file and so on.

However, this weekend I opened My Documents and found most of my files to be in bright blue fonts.

I didn't do anything to them.

Is there a reason why these files are in blue letters? Is it something bad?

I know it's a silly question but what in the world would make them a different color?

A blue file name in Windows Explorer generally means the file is compressed.  Try this on one of them:

1. Right-click on the file name and select Properties.

2. In the properties dialog box, if the Size line displays a larger size than does the Size on Disk line, the file is compressed.

To change this:

1. Again in the Properties dialog box, click the Advanced button.

2. Uncheck the Compress Contents to Save Disk Space check box.

3. Click OK.

You could have highlighted them or they could have saved in a blue font. I wouldn't worry about it. You can just make the font black again when you need to use them. Just highlight everything and change the color to black.

try repairing microsoft office and see if that has an impact? I never saw this issue before and I work in IT support.

You're not crazy.  The same thing happened to me today.  In fact, I was googling it to try to find out why and that's when I came across your question.  I'm no help on what happened but at least you know you're not alone.  I'll keep checking back to see if you get an answer.
