Weird Yellowish Hard coat Film on Surfboard.

After 2 years of inactivity, Yesterday I took out my surfboard.

I was surprised to see that the bottom of the board seemed to have turned way to yellow for a 3 year old board that has been mostly stored away from the sun. After hosing down the board with water, some of the yellow areas started to peel away a yellowish film, exposing the original white finish of the board.

Can somebody tell what is this yellowish film like coat?

  1. Sounds like its old wax, Or the board was constantly heated, which allowed the laquer to "bubble up". when it recooled then it layed back down, and this process might have repeated itself over the time it was stored.

EDIT: Hmmm Could it be that there was something acidic in the board before it was laquered, this would be manufacturers fault.(glad to hear your taking good care of your board.  ;0)
