Weird black object coming for my turtle??

I have 3 red eared sliders, and lately one has been acting strange. Squirt has been staying away from the group, just sitting on the bottom of the tank. Being a loner. Well, last night we were watching the turtles, and Squirt started squeezing his back legs together, and then this weird black thing came out of this back end, it looked like a flower. Then it went right back in. It happened a few times. We took the remaining 2 turtles out of the tank, and let Squirt swim alone for a bit, and everything seemed fine. Has this happened to any of you guys before??

  1. well that black thing is what makes squirt a boy. hint hint

turtles need time to themselves too so i wouldnt worry about his loner behavior unless he suddenly loosed his appetite which is a sign of sickness.

  2. that would be his reproductive organs. He is fine, that is just one of those weird things that happen for no reason.

  3. Congratulations Pops

you have a boy! Put the others back in..

  4. c**p OR p**p

  5. Squirt is a male. He was doing what is called 'fanning', which is done to attract a female and intimidate other turtles. If the turtles are kind of young, it is probably a sign he feels crowded.

Red-ears do not usually play nicely together unless they are in a big tank- figure 10 gallons of actual water per inch total of shell, and they can hit 10" pretty easily- you should have them in about 300 gallons of water when full grown.

Sure- a lot of people keep them in smaller tanks, but it is easy for experienced keepers to see the signs of stress those turtles exhibit.

  6. LOL,that is his p***s! Now you know that he is a male turtle. They will do this,Sometimes, the other turtles will bite it,causing severe damage, but this is rare.

  7. everyone got it right he is fanning

  8. hes is totaly fine no nead to take out the other trutles unless you dont want any eggs wink but still he is fine notice i said HE
