Question:

Weird burning smell?!?! Please help!?

Okay so here is the deal, my 03' Mustang has a weird burning rubber (almost kind of a sweet) smell from behind my driver side rear tire, I checked other sides of my car, and only this area gives off that smell.

While driving I will smell it randomly (even through my AC) but it goes away and comes back.

I took a flash light and looked behind my tire and didnt see anything strange. Does anyone have any idea of what this could potentially be?! Thanks : )

Oh and no my emergency bake is not on... ; )

  1. well a sweet smell usually indicates burning coolant fluid...check the engine bay just incase your leaking from your rad or water pump hose and its somehow running down your frame rail while your driving and thats why your noticing it at the back too...good luck!

It could also be your exhaust fumes if your running an overly rich fuel mixture...but thats usualy followed by engine problems so i doubt it..

  2. Catalytic converters have a tendency to emit strange odors

  3. you might have a tire rub. check the tread on the tire in question for uneven wear compaired to the rest of the tires. or take it to a mechanic to check for the rub.

it could be caused by a number of things from the tire itself to suspension problems.
