Question:

Weird fear of flying question...?

I have a fear of flying...or rather, a fear of falling. I'm not as worried about dying in a midair explosion or something as I am falling out of the sky.

What are the chances that IF involved in a plane crash, that you would experience free fall speeds alllllllllllllllllll the way down?

  1. Unless there was a catastrophic structure failure like a wing fell off or the plane split in two than no. even with engine failures or many other problems the plane will still fly.

  2. wings falling off? All modern day jets are tested EXACTLY for that. Their wings are literally bent to a near 90 degree turn (trhats point strait up) from the plane.Although this is more a stress test, don't ytou think that if the wigns can go 90 degrees up they will certainly NOT just fall off in mid flight? the closest thing to a free fall is a engine off stall, and that CAN be fiarly scary, and is very possible (not probably, but it is much more common than any other type of failure) this is basically when the engine fails. The plane gathers lift by speed, so it needs to go a certain speed to be able to fly. When engines fail, its only source of speed is cut on a quarter or a hlaf (depending on how many engines) either way, your pilot will have to land at the nearest airport. HOWEVER, since there is considerably les thrust (especially in a twin engine) it will not be the normal slight bank. Instead your pilot will be banking the aircraft rather steep to keep the speed needed to fly. Otheewise you would stall and have a free fall. Although this is technically not a free fall or stall, it is still much like a roller coaster ride.

  3. Your more likely to be involved in a motorcycle accident, than an airplane crash.

  4. On this website it says your chances being involved in an aircraft accident are 1 in 11 million. I think you're pretty safe!

I have a slight fear of heights but I learned not to fear them anymore. I respect heights but am not totally afraid of them. Respecting heights just means when you are up very high you are cautious and wary.

If you're still scared of flying or want to know what to do if in the situation this is a good site: http://www.wikihow.com/Survive-a-Plane-C...

    Best wishes!

  5. You are in greater danger of being killed by a blow to the head from a fish dropped by an eagle.

  6. Not very high. Your plane is not just going to fall out of the sky. The only way that could happen and not be arrested is if your plane's wings somehow fell off (not very likely).

  7. There have only been a few accidents I can think of where this has happened and these accidents occured around 30 years ago. Wings dont just fall off, I dont think that has ever happened. And if they were to fall off you would still be inside the plane which would slow your fall. Yeah you would still die but you wouldnt be freefalling to the ground by yourself.
