Question:

Weird little "rocks" in my throat?

Ive always wondered what these things are...

Ok, so it doesnt happen often, but maybe once every couple of weeks something resembling a rock in shape kind of comes up from my throat (or somewhere down there) into my mouth. Obviously it isnt as hard as a rock, but it looks like a little white/beige pebble and is probably the consistency of a piece of wet bread. When you squash it between your fingers, it is stinky... but only when you squash it- otherwise it doesnt smell like anything. Squashed, the smell is difficult to describe; kind of like acidic rotten cheese kind of smell....

What are these things? I remember that as a child, I had a friend who used to call them "toxins", but Im sure thats just the layman´s name given to whatever this thing is.

Anyone know what they are?

  1. OH MY GOSH I HAD THAT THE OTHER DAY AND WAS TOTALLY JUST GOING TO ASK THAT!!

also about an hour later i noticed that a strip of my tonsil was peeling off. so uh.. i don't know if that's relevant but thanks i know that im not alone :D

  2. when I was younger I used to dig those things out of my tonsils with my fingernails. Gross, I know, but I couldn't stand them being there. As a young adult I was asked if I ever had my tonsils out. When I said no, I was told they were nearly non-existent. Don't know if I did that or what.

  3. tonsil stones, or 'tonsilloliths'. they're apparently the result of either dead white blood cells, oral bacteria, or overactive salivary glands. they're not uncommon.

  4. I've had those before too!!!

When i was 15 i got one, and put it in a bag and showed my doctor, and she was just like "um... its nothing serious."

    THANK goodness you asked this!!

  5. I know what your talking about, they are like lumpy cream of wheat things. I notice that whenever I get sick or have a sore throat I get those. I'm not sure what they are.

  6. you need to visit an ent (ear, nose, throat) specialist and then see what they say

it's a discharge i guess from your tonsils
