Question:

Weird periods. Help! Is something wrong?

I just want to start out by saying that I'm an 18 year old girl. I've had my period since I was 11. I'm not on birth control, nor am I sexually active.

My period last month was really bad. Heavy bleeding for 8 days (then light bleeding for several more days) and unbearable cramps the whole time. I was exhausted, light headed, and had a migraine the first couple day. I got this months period 3 days ago. It was a week late. I'm barely bleeding at all, but I'm still having cramps. Before this I've always had regular periods that lasted 5/6 days with light cramps.

I'm just starting to get worried that something's wrong since this is the second month in a row that it's been weird. Does anyone know if there could be something wrong?

I've also been having lower back pains the last couple months. I don't know if that means anything I just thought I'd mention it.

p.s. I know that this is the wrong section. I already posted it in Women's Health but questions don't get a lot of answers in that section. And since there are a lot of women in the Beauty & Style section I thought that it couldn't hurt to post it there.

  1. I'v heard of people having irregular periods at all different ages. Well i mean it's common for your period to be irregular when u first get it, but i'v heard stories of people who have had irregular periods up to their twenties and eventually it became a normal cycle.

If your really worried about it, visit a doctor to make sure you don't have anything wrong with you.

    Hope you get better! :D

  2. OMG!

im having like the same problem right now, and i was wondering the same thing!

  3. Well since the month before had such a long and heavy flow, it makes sense that this period is lighter. I wouldnt look too far into it- iregular periods happen- and since your not sexually active, it shouldnt be a big deal. But if you are really concerned, ask a doctor :)

  4. I think you need to see your doc O.O

  5. It isn't uncommon for young women's periods to be a bit irregular. It does sound as if your period is a bit of a pain. Being put on birth control would regulate your period. It would lessen the cramps and also lighten your bleeding.

All of your symptoms sound typical of PMS, but if you are still worried I would head to the gynecologist. She/He may be able to offer you more tips and a prescription for birth control.

Unfortunately, the only way to really know what is going on is to see a doctor. I know this can be uncomfortable.
