Question:

Weird pinkish-orange antiperspirant stains?

I work at a daycare center and we went to the park on Saturday with all my kids, and I was wearing my favorite light blue polo. It was hot outside and I got all sweaty, and now I have these gross pinkish-orange stains. I think it's from my antiperspirant. I read somewhere that the aluminum mixes with your sweat and discolors your shirt.

I think I can prevent this from happening in the future by switching antiperspirants, but how I can get rid of the stain? My mom told me to soak it in a dish detergent and baking soda mix for a few hours, which is what I'm doing now, but so far it doesn't seem to be working. Help? =]

  1. I have had great luck removing underarm stains with a strong solution of OxyClean and warm water.  Let the clothing soak overnight and then launder as usual.  I use three scoops of OxyClean either in the washer on the presoak cycle ( just turn the washer off mid cycle to let it soak overnight ) or in a sink of water still with 3 scoops.

The stains are a mix of body oils, sweat and the salts from the deo.  To avoid the stains, launder any clothes that are white or pastel as soon as you take them off.  Voice of experience speaking  ;)  I used to get those horrible stains because I would throw things in the hamper and launder them a couple of days later when I had a full load.  Even if you handwash them inth sink when you take them off using either Woolite or dishwashing liquid it will stop the staining process.

Be aware that if you have put the item in the dryer it may be more difficult to remove the stain.  Heat sets stains into fabric.
