Question:

Weird question about cat claws. Need advise?

Why did my declawed cat grow one wild claw back? She was resuced from a car crash where her previous owner was killed. She was declawed when I took her. Now, 5 yrs later, she's growing one crazy claw back. She won't let me near her paws to clip it. If I don't remove the claw, doesn't that put pressure on it since the others are claw free? Should I go ahead and have it removed? I've never heard of this happening before, have you?

  1. her toes were savagely torn off, she wasnt declawed, she was detoed. god only knows what can grow back.

    take her to a vet.

  2. WOW! IT sounds serious maybe you should take her to a vet so he can give you good advise. I know declawing surgery is very, very painful for cats-if  the claw doesn't bother your cat  maybe you should avoid pain to the cat by just leaving the claw alone.

  3. That's one of the possible complications of de-toeing surgery.  The claws can grow back, but they grow back deformed.  Chances are that it will have to be removed as well.  The vet will be able to evaluate it though.  I'm not surprised she won't allow you to handle her poor feet, that's another side effect of the surgery.
