Question:

Weird question about cloth diapers?

I use cloth on my son. I have had something weird happening lately. He eats baby food now (mainly bananas and applesauce). Whenever he poos the moisture around the poo turns a funny pinkish, rusty color. At first I thought oh my goodness he is bleeding. It doesn't happen every poo, but most of the time. He isn't acting funny or weird or more fussy than normal. Here is my question: Is it possible that there is a weird chemical reaction between the ph in his poo and the detergents that I use to wash his diapers? And yes I am going to the pediatrician about it...just wanted to know if other mothers who use cloth have had similar experiences. Oh, and it NEVER happens when I have used disposables.

  1. i have the same thing happen with my baby - i use all or purex - free and clear types

i dry pail method - and after the diaper is no longer damp - there is a reddish stain - i dont think it is any kind of ph or cause for concern - it is just a stain - all proteins leave stains - and if you notice - when the poo is not 'dry' there is not much of a stain - in fact i have not even mentioned it to my doctor and i took her to dr because i was afraid of a uti because she grunting before she peed - in other words i am a cautious first time mom - depending on what my baby has eaten sometimes is reddish and sometimes brownish/darker

disposables are not going to do that since disposables do not 'dry' - liquid turns into a gel and solids really just sit there
