there would certainly be a team of doctors, and would be sure to include surgeons

I would imagine its more then one doctor that does this because  more then one would do the op, then theres the medication you have to take before hand, plus I would imagine some sort of physctrist would be involed to make sure you was ready to under go a chnage. But if you mean the doctor actually doing the sugery I would think it would be a plastic sugeon, so you would have to do a degree to become a doctor.

The series of operations are usually performed by a team of surgeons, urologist, plastic surgeon, gynaecologist etc.

It would all depend on which operation you're referring to.

For example a urologist would not be involved in the breast removal for a female to male operation.
