Lets just say a baby is born with a horrible birth defect, such as a conjoined twin or facial and limb problems that would keep the child from ever having a normal life. Usually these babies are born in critical condition do the parents have the right to deny medical treatment to their child because they feel the quality of life the child would live is nearly unbearable?

  1. I don't think they can deny medical treatment.

  2. Yes, they can. However, in rare circumstances the doctors can file a petition in court and the courts can intervene.

Here is a local story of conjoined twins that mom decided NOT to separate:

*Yes, in some cases parents decide to let nature take its course. However, if the medical professionals disagree with it for medical reasons (such as the child(ren) can survive, in some cases they will step in. There are far too may variables and laws to give a definitive answer to this.

  3. i guess that letting nature take its course would be the best thing to do in some cases but it would be extremely hard to do i mean you are basically denying someone their life if you don't do everything you possibly can to save them. But i really don't know, its an extremely hard topic. For me i would do everything i could to help this baby and love them as much as i possibly can

  4. I assume there is probably somewhere in the world that could happen. However, in the majority of countries, the parents would likely be charged with something like "failure to provide the necessities of life".
