Can stallions tell when a woman is on her period and do they get over - protective of her? I mean, can they smell it, similarly to when they are in the wild and they are around the mares.

  1. Yes they can. It's a natural thing for them.

  2. of course they are male arn't they! lol

but yes they can and don't let them be all over you and be "pushy" to you. its not healthy to let them get away with that. Be firm and fight back

  3. Palomino is right...I'd use the word "amorous" in polite company.

  4. I don't know the scientific answer to it, but my geldings can.  I have a rigged gelding (he has a t******e that never dropped correctly, so it is still in his abdomen, and on top of that he was cut late, we didn't know it when we got him!) who ALWAYS knows, but I've always attributed it to the unusual amounts of testosterone he produces.  So yes, I believe so, but I'm not sure if there is science to back it up.

  5. The worst week monthly fo rme at the breeding farm I worked at was when I had my period. I had 8 stallions under my care and all 8 of them were idiots for that week. They are all over you when AF is visiting... they can smell that for sure no doubt... Put a dryer sheet in your pocket and it will make the smell go away to them kinda it helps a little

  6. Yes they can and "protective" is not the word I would use to describe it.
