Question:

Weird question for Kiwis...?

So, I'm going to be in NZ for a semester. I will be working with a company as an intern. I know that sometimes, to be courteous at an event or just to be nice in general, you may end up having to bring "gifts" for people, like little gestures of appreciation or kindness. In my "information packet," I'm told that gifts from my home country (the States) could be appropriate.

But ... what does that mean? What do we have that you guys don't? I feel like whatever we can get, you can get just as easily. But I guess you guys can answer that question better than I can. If I were to bring things from America, what would you like to receive as a gift?

Weird question, I know, but thanks for helping!

  1. The usual rules of hospitality apply.  As in any other country, gifts are not compulsory, but if tendered as a show of appreciation for hospitality then whatever you wish to present them with, they will be genuinely gratefully received.

I believe New Zealanders to be very friendly, in a somewhat "lay-back" fashion and enjoy the sociual side of life.  Enjoy your trip.
