Weird red plant? ?

There is a weird red plant that is in my backyard. It is red of course and looks like it has a a flower bloom at the tip or maybe like those plants in jumamji where they shoot barbs. They look kinda like that. The root isn't like a normal root. It's about 3 in. long and more of a light pink or peach color. The root is shaped kinda like a star type thing. Please tell me what it is! I'm worried it might be poisinous. If you want more info, email me at NGKbenitzgirls@yahoo.com I will try to send a picture!

  1. It sounds like something we've had to deal with here too.  I think it might be called Japanese Knotweed.  I've been told that there are two cures for it.  One, cut it right at the root line, leaving the root intact.  Apparently this makes it die out.  Or, you can hit it with something like Roundup (I hate chemicals but my husband seems to like to use this stuff).  We've disposed of the top part of the plants by burning them.  Don't just dump them someplace else though, that can actually spread them even more.

  2. This could be a castor bean plant.  They do look kind of jumanji-ish.  Up here in the northwest, they aren't hardy so there isn't much danger of too many taking over the yard, but they are occasionally sold as ornamental annuals.  Castor bean plants are toxic.  As to the level, I'm not sure.  You could call the Poison Control Center and find out.  If you don't want it in your yard, pull as much of the root as you can (use gloves) and don't let it go to seed.  If suckers come up from the roots, you can keep cutting them off (the plant will eventually exhaust itself) or spray it with something like Round-Up.

  3. Sounds like a thistle or other plain weed. everyone wants to feed birds these days and all the mixes have plain old fashioned weed seeds in them. Since you have already pulled it to see the roots, just throw it out.  End of issue.

  4. IT IS DEFINITELY A POISONOUS PLANT

pink roots are never a good thing, it means it is getting too much nutrition too fast which is what occurs in almost 100% of poisonous plants

  5. why not pull it out and be done with it...(use gloves) and throw it away.
