I am going crazy here this week. I don't know what the problem is and it makes me feel horrible that I can't figure it out, like a bad mom b/c I don't know whats wrong. Anyway here is the problem. At 16m Sully still is taking 2 naps a day and he still goes down really easily most of the time so I haven't been forcing the one nap a day issue. Well this week he has been acting weird when waking up. After only about 45min he is wakingup hysterical! And it takes me a good 20+min to calm him down. And I KNOW he is waking before he is ready b/c of the way he is acting (crying, whining, moaning all the while his eyes are still closed. And he acts like he wants to go back to sleep but just can't get comfortable.) He finally settles down after a while but this is taking a toll on me. EVERY day after EVERY nap! I don't understand. Today he didn't want to nap this morn so I put him down after lunch around 12:15. And Never Fails, 45 min later he is screaming hysterically and NOTHING I or DH

  1. Kind of sounds like night terrors!

  2. Night Terrors. I have a 3 year old son and he has had them for about a year. They are very common and can start as early as 9 months and last usually till 5 or 6. There isn't really anything that can be done about them. Most of the time the child grows out of it. Is he doing it at night also? Now a lot of people will say "nightmares" but night terrors are completely different.  The child is asleep when they happen and have no idea what is going on. When you finally get him calmed down it is probably him just waking up wondering whats going on.

My son would wonder around the house screaming like someone was killing him but he would have his eyes closed. Then he would either wake up and look at me or just quit screaming and go back to sleep. Night terrors can be caused by a number of things. Changes in the house hold is the most common but they can just happen for no reason.

They are a very hard thing to deal with especially when, as a mother you want to fix it. I would take him to the doctor and let them know what is going on just to be sure that's what it is but like I said there is nothing that can be done and they have to grow out of it

    Hope this was helpful

  3. is he sleeping ok at night? is there anything different about his naps that he doesn't have to deal with at night? is he lying a certain way? my first thought was that he either has teething pain or an earache (you mentioned he has a cold, right?). my daughter often does the same when she's in pain, without even waking up. it sounds a little like nightmares or night terrors, but i'd expect those to occur at night as well. either way, it's probably better to talk to his pediatrician about it and have him checked out. good luck!

  4. He could be having nightmares but more than likely is having tummy troubles(gas) or has and earache. Take him to his pediatrician and have her check his ears, etc.

  5. maybe its something mentally it could be something like a bad dream as those simptomes of moaning in sleep ect could indicate bad sleep

Take him to a doctor incase he is ill or has a sore back or sometihng
