  1. I was invited to a reception held in honor of a couple who had a destination wedding.  It was fiting for the situation, because not many people could attend the wedding (I tried, but it's too expensive).   However, the reception was hosted by the bride's mother only(the couple didn't suggest the party) and I thought that was really nice.  It didn't make the couple look like they were trying to have gift grab or anything of that nature.   It was fancy, but simple.

  2. I agree it should be a casual event. Have some fantastic food on a buffet and self serve sodas and lemonade and waters and a cash bar if you want and pics from the wedding and honeymoon all around. Have a band or fantastic songs on Mp3 and you can have relatives and friends do toasts and whatever. Have a discreet gift table and wishing well in the corner but make the focus on celebrating with friends and loved ones -- which it sounds like you are doing.

  3. very quite and romantic !

  4. I think a casual, home reception would be perfect!  We love to entertain our friends and family as well and what better place to do it than at home!

My fiance and I are also having a destination wedding with only a few close friends and family members attending.  We plan on having a bbq or a dinner we have prepared here at home.  We are taking cake decorating classes together so we can make our own wedding cake as well.  It has saved a ton of money and allows us to have a meal that would rival any restaurant and most importantly, fits with our casual style of entertaining our friends and family.

    Congratulations!

  5. that sounds like a great idea, maybe you can have a theme like beach or luau if you go somewhere beachy for your honeymoon. that might be fun

  6. Sure, I think this is a great idea for destination weddings or very small weddings, where most people will not be able to attend.

  7. A lot of people who have "destination weddings" have a reception once they return home from there honeymoon.

My suggestion is keep it within your budget, keep it within your personalities and have fun with it!
