Welding help?

I need to weld sever pieces of metal togeather with a propane blow torch. Do I need to have the protective goggles to shield the bright light? And if I do will regular sunglasses work?

  1. No eye wear is needed with a propane torch.  If it is acetylene and oxygen blow torch you need a #5 lens shield.  If it's a arch welder you need a #10 lens shield.

    You can't weld with a propane torch though.  You can only solder things with it.


  2. It is not likely a Propane torch will have enough heat to melt any type metal enough to weld it. You need cutting glasses/goggles for this. They have a number 5 lens in them.

  3. Yes, and maybe. You do need eye protection.

    Sun glasses are usually not dark enough.
