Welegedara to undergo scans for hamstring complaint – Cricket News Update
With the Sri Lankan team having been hit by a number of unfortunate injuries during their ongoing second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735, who left the field early on
day two (December 27) after having suffered what appeared to be a hamstring strain, and will be undergoing scans to determine the extent of the injury.
Welegedara opened for the tourists on the second morning of the ongoing Test, but halfway through his fourth over, he stopped in the middle of his run-up, stretching his hamstring and displaying obvious discomfort. He was taken off the field while Shaminda
Eranga stepped in to complete his over. The visitors had earlier received a blow on day one, when wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779
has been keeping wickets in his stead.
If deemed serious, the injury and subsequent loss of the spearhead of their pace attack could prove a severe setback for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, who are already faltering under the strain of attempting to check the Aussie batting order, after having been bowled for a
meagre first innings total of 156 on the first day.
For most of the second day, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 (106) added substantially to the team's first innings total, and it was only near the end of the second session that three
wickets – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 – enabled the Lankans to reduce the hosts to 332 for 6 by tea.
Meanwhile, Welegedara’s injury marks the third fitness concern the 31-year-old has suffered this year. The home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in March this year saw Welegedara sustaining a groin strain, and later in the year during summer, he tore his shoulder
muscle prior to the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, and was subsequently ruled out. The injuries saw him missing a total of eight months of Test cricket, and he was also unable to participate much in the domestic season.
