Welfare Reform?

Do you like the Welfare system, or is it in need of reform? If so, what would benefit it?

I say that we monitor welfare to ensure that those on the system are making an attempt to leave dependency on welfare.

  1. Clinton did away with welfare except corporate welfare is still alive and well.

  2. I say that the government should get rid of welfare altogether. First off, it's not the governments job to take care of unfortunate people. That job should be left up to non-profit organizations, churches, and charities. By having welfare, it gives people on it no incentive to go out and learn to care for themselves. I understand that there are some people that ARE indeed less fortunate and need assistance, but it shouldn't be up to the taxpayers. I see it all to often. A woman who has never held a job and makes no effort to control her child bearing. It's not fair for those of us who go out every day, make the right decisions, and end up paying for everyone elses ignorance.

  3. we already r havet u heard of welfare reform lol.

  4. Welfare is good as it is right now in that it ensures people are working or going to school.  However, they don't encourage school, which will ensure you never again see welfare or other assistance rather than just working.

They only let you go to school if you were attending when you joined welfare.  If you don't go to school over the summer and just work instead, then they wont let you go back.  Its like they prefer you to work rather than better yourself.

  5. The welfare system is desperately in need of reform.  Here's a few reasons:

    1.  You can stay on welfare for as long as you are unemployed.

    2.  You can receive more money depending on the number of children you have, even if you have them while on welfare.  In a sense, this promotes childbearing during times of financial crisis.

    3.  The average American, who has a job and supports his or her own family, has to pay for the welfare recipient's bills while they do nothing.

I think that if a welfare recipient who is deemed capable of working should be given a time limit to either find a job or get a better education, or a g.e.d., etc.  Also, they lose their right to vote, because they're only going to vote for the candidates that promise them more money and less welfare restrictions.

  6. Welfare was meant to be a temporary solution. Let's ditch it already...

  7. We need to enforce the laws that were enacted when Bill Clinton was president.   My guess as to why we don't is that it would put welfare workers out of a job if the # on welfare decreased.   Somebody needs to monitor something.
