Hi I am a young single mother on my own now. I just moved in with my mother but have no car to get a job I was wondering if anyone knew what welfare can do about helping me get a car. the public transportation is very bad in my city and is unreliable. I am not one trying to live off of welfare just want some help to get to school, work and a daycare. Any advice?

  1. walking is another way to get to work.

In Washington State welfare has a program to pay a small amount to repairing a car you have.

Since you cannot support your child and looks like you will not be able to for a long long time,  ever consider adoption.

  2. If you get money in the form of money (as opposed to vouchers) I suppose you could spend it on a car.

  3. no welfare doesn't help you get a car...you are going to have to rely on that unreliable transportation.

  4. The welfare folks can't help with this, but how about the person who got you pregnant, any chance that he might help out now?

  5. Nope, it will never happen!

You almost sound as if you live in the same town that I do here in GA.

The system is set up, at least here anyways, that when you purchase a car, they "might" help you with the insurance for it but that is all.  But even for them to do that much, YOU must purchase a car within the first 6 months of getting a job or the first year (don't remember which one).

I would as your case worker about this for more information.  However, if your case worker is anything like the people down here are, they will lie to your face if they don't feel like helping you with this.  The "only" reason I ever find out about this wasn't because of my case worker years ago, but from people who have been there before me.  Later on find out that they are only willing to reveal such information base on how they feel about you.

Yet, many people voting for Obama actually believe he'll change this so the poor such as yourself may obtain a car.  Don't hold your breath on it!

  6. ride a bike.

  7. There are some programs to help depending on where you live. But everyone I've ever heard of you had to have the job first (i think because the programs are just helping with getting low interest loans)

  8. welfare is not for getting cars in fact, if they found out you did own a car, your benefits could be cut or eliminated. welfare is for those who are destitute not auto deprived.

  9. no, not that I have ever heard of.
