Well Green likely to perform well in Riders’ Handicap Hurdle
Well Green is all set to perform well and claim first position in the Niftylift Amateur Riders’ Handicap Hurdle at Towcester racecourse on Monday, May 14. The Class 5 contest over a distance of 2 miles, 3 furlongs and 110 yards will commence at 5:30 (GMT).
Pursuing the prize cheque of £1,622, the Seamus Mullins-trained bay gelding will compete against 10 rivals including Royal Chatelier, Balustrade, Speedy Directa, Rifleman, Mr Tingle, Inkberrow Rose, Old Shyan, Shindig, Romney Marsh and Grand Article.
Well Green has won 2 of his total 16 starts so far. The eight-year-old maverick sprinter has been in good form since the very outset of the calendar year.
After May 2009, the brilliant horse staged a stunning comeback on January 19, 2012 with a classic victory against 11 competitors.
The talented son of Quws out of Coca’s Well moved on to grab a 5th and a 3rd position in two back-to-back races in the month of March. He elegantly finished as a runner-up in his last start on April 27.
Well Green’s ongoing purple patch suggest that he will make a big impact in the Handicap Hurdle. Despite not being a favourite runner, he will have up to 90 percent chances to finish first.
Among the other contestants, Rifleman and Romney Marsh are expected to perform well today.
Rifleman excellently finished 2nd in each of the last two outings of his career on March 28 and May 9. Overall, the Richard Lee-trained veteran runner has won 8 of his total 88 starts. He looks to be quite confident to show a decent run at Towcester.
On the other hand, Romney Marsh displayed outstanding recitals in her last three goings. After finishing 3rd in each of the two consecutive races during April, Roger Curtis’ brown mare got a runner-up position in her last start on May 13. Overall,
she has 3 mega victories to her name.
In this situation, there is expected to be a fierce battle for the Handicap title. Well Green will have to be wary of both Rifleman and Romney Marsh during the race. Good luck to all the runners.
