I suck at running! lol

This is the only sport that I think I can do because I'm not very good at sports! lol

The thing is, I can barely run!

How do I train for track (or whatever running sport they r doing) this fall!?

Should I just forget about it and not do it?

I'm in 8th grade so I would start in 9th grade.

If you think I could acctually do it...can you give me some kind of plan so that I could become good at running? remember: I can barely run! lol

  1. actually mr goodadvice ur advice wasn't so good. track and cross country are 2 TOTALLY different sports. track you can run the mile the 100 ect. you can do long jump high jump and shotput. jus train really hard and for the jumps and shotput u really dont have to run.. GO FOR IT!

  2. practice does not make perfect in sports. noone is sports has ever been or ever will be perfect. what i would do is try long jump or triple jump. or shottput and discus

  3. Anyone can be good at running, you just have to try your best and practice daily. You should try to run 6 times a week and rest on one day. It is going to be hard at first, but you can't give up. Running is mental so you just have to get beyond the pain and keep running. Don't be discouraged if you are not good at first. You have to start from somewhere. Since I have been runnin gI have seen many people go from being one of the worst runners on the team to the best one. It can happen. You just have to believe in yourself and be dedicated to running.

  4. Well let me tell you this i run track and crosscountry! Every time i come in dead last. I honestly don't care though because i love to run. I would try long distance it isn't that hard if you take it slow and easy

  5. you can do sprint, mid distance, long distance track also has shot put, high jump, long jump, sometimes hurdles (depending on your school)

    For track training it depends on which events you do

    for sprinting  you need to control your bursts of speed into short burts

    mid you need to control your pace with a spurt of power at the end

    long- you need to maintain a steady pace for at least 4 times around the track with a strong finish. (this depends on which distance you r doing......1 mile , 2 mile etc.)

    Anything you choose you need to build up your endurance.....start slowly and build up to what you need.

  6. I'm on my high schools track team so I'll try to help you out.

    -First off you need a lot more then a month to shape up and get in tone with all those events. (I've been train since late February and my first meet was last week)

    -Remember you don't need a side walk to jog, go to a park or jog on the side of the street

    ------->TRAINING<-------

    -->Warm up

    -Start as soon as possible

    -Start of with your jog around the block for a warm up

    -Stretch...look up some should takes about 20-25 mins

    -Do drills...(high knees, heel kicks, etc. look some up) [should take about 15 mins

    -->Workout

    -  For example this would be a sprinters workout (something soft since your starting up).

    - 5, 100m at [70%] 8, 80m at [70%] and 6, 60m at [70%]

    This is just an example of a workout you can add different distances and change intensities.

    -->Cool Down

    - After you main work out jog a cool down...about 600m jog

    Then your work out is done.

    As for long jump however your going to have to have the proper facility and training, I'm beginning mine.

    You should practice 5 days a week for 1:30 mins to 2 hrs

    Eat well and healthy make sure you have your sugars, and your hydrated you don't want to crash out.

  7. I'm in 8th going to 9th next year. I also tried volleyball in 8th but wasn't that good at it. I am very athletic so maybe I can be of some assistance. In 9th I'm trying Softball this year because the volleyball thing didn't really work out. I play basketball and run track I have ran track since I was little.

    One thing I can tell you is to train a lot over the summer. Make sure you stretch before you work out and after you work out.

    I'm not really sure how to tell you to train because I don't know if you are a sprinter or a long distance runner. Hope I could be of some assistance.

  8. well it's called cross country and in high school meets you'll be running over 2 miles each race. if you have a good coach you'll run over 5 miles every day of the week. it's not an easy sport so don't underestimate. you can get in shape if you really want to but if you hate running then this definitely isn't for you.

    well since you don't hate running then i say you should do it. you don't have to be great just know that it will be difficult but rewarding too. i always feel great after a run even if i didn't DO great

  9. You should go for it !! You can build yourself up by running a short distance every day and just adding more distance every few days. Just do what you can handle if you feel short of breath or in pain slow down or walk at a comfortable pace. I felt the same way when I was your age! I was never a great runner i just did my best and had a great time hanging with my friends. Google some training tips and Good luck !! You can do it . Remember you don't need to be the best just be the best you can be !!!!!!!!!!

  10. go for it practice makes perfect

  11. you should do leg stretched and run around your neighborhood or somewhere where you have a lot of space. remeber that track is more running fast and herdles(sp?) and it's not exactly long distances, that's called cross country.

  12. If you enjoy it then go for it!  You could turn out to be really good, if you work HARD! your only in the 8th grade!  Look at Micheal Jordan he got cut his 9th grade year but he came to be the best basketball player in the world!
