I think you can do the "key" trick to pull codes on a Chrysler product as that trick came back in 1999, but as the previous poster mentioned, get the code scanned.

If you don't know what a check engine light is for in 2008, you are out of your league here.

Engine light can be for a lot of things. Could be something as simple as your gas cap not on properly. Best thing to do is take it to a mechanic and have him scan the obd2. He will see why that light came on and why is it off now.
