when im half way done I get this horrible cramp on my stomach area and it makes me want to slow down but i run with it, i breathe in and out with nose when i try to use the mouth and nose combo it just tires me out quicker and when i try that the cramps are worse.

So any of you have any idea why im getting those I could easily run more than a mile if it wasn't for it...

Oh and is it true after your first non-stop mile of running the rest of them are a breeze?

Oh I run indoors with my treadmill so A/C is on.

  1. Your stomach muscles are probably weak.  Start doing situps a little while after you run.  Dont push it to hard.  Your stomach muscles are weak right now.  Start slow and if you cant complete full situps then go half way up. Anything to strenghten your stomach muscles.  When you breathe with your mouth and nose you are taking in more air and working more stomach/diapham muscles( thus cramps).  Continue to breathe with your mouth and nose after you have worked on your stomach muscles for a week or two.  Also cramps can be caused by lack of fluids so drink alot of water hours before you run.

  2. You should try running 3 or more miles at a time. Once you are used to that, running 1 mile will be a breeze.

  3. stick with the nose breathing, it lessens cramps, try eating bananas, the potassium lowers the number of cramps you get while running, try starting with a slower paced longer run and then work your way up, you'll be able to run a non-stop mile in no time

  4. was that your first time running or close to your first time?

i think the problem was that you are not taking enough oxygen. the way to increase you take in of oxygen is to run regularly, that way you expand your lungs and you will be able to take in more oxygen in each breath

when im halfway through the mile, im like "now i have to do that again, darn!!"

    trying breathing through your mouth
