  1. Try therabands...after your barre and warm up, practice different things in center. play the acting game. (with older kids...the younger ones like it too though.) You have everyone line up in the corner and have one person walk out to a mat or something that you've set out specifically for the game. Have them pretend it's something and act out (as if performing a ballet) how they would react to their chosen object. for instance, one student may pick it up and pretend it's a skunk. they could make a face and act out that it smelled bad. (like plugging their noses.) I find that in my classes, just having free time sometimes where she just turns on the music and lets us all dance on our own, makes it fun. It lets us exxpress ourselves.for small kids, you can make spplits fun for them. My teacher lets me help her teach in the summer and she taught me this trick. you have them kneel tall and then they put one knee up.they clap their hands, make a sandwich (put their hands one on each side of their legs,) and slide into their splits. Then they sing the ABC's and switch legs. that way they know they did it the same amount on both sides. I love my ballet class and my faveorite part is performing. Make sure to have at LEAST one performance a year, but It makes it SO much funner if their are two. I do nutcracker every year, and one spring performance each year. The spring ones change from year to year...(last year it was coppelia and this year it was wizard of Oz.) You just gotta switch things up a little bit. Reppetition is good...but boring, Change the barre excercises after like two months-ish. That will keep things new and exciting. I hope that this was helpful.

  2. have a balance contest maybe?

well some "games" that i've done in dance class umm once my teacher placed a few hula hoops on the ground and she would play the music and when the music stopped everyone had to squish and stand inside the hula hoop, and she would take a hula hoop away every other time.

another time our teacher wanted us to dance to the music more and build self confidence so she would play a song and every one had to find something in the song to dance to [like the voice, beats, piano, other instruments] and she would play about a minute of a song then play a different song [she would change up the genres of music too] and eventually she made us do a solo and once she saw that we got the idea of what she was teaching us then somebody else would go.
