Well known songs that will excite kids to play an instrument (trombone)?

In a few days select people from my high school are going to drive to two grades schools and do a little demo on instruments to try to get those kids to play an instrument. I'm demonstrating the euphonium and trombone. Last year I played "That's the way (uh-huh) I like it" on trombone (with glisses on "thaaats that way") But that song didn't seem as great as i thought it would be since it didn't seem to appeal to the kids as much.

What are some recognizable songs which are "cool" and grade school kids will really like and be more excited to try an instrument? I decided I'm going to play "Axel F (aka Crazy frog)" on euphonium, but what about trombone? Are there "cool" songs that I can add a gliss to so it sounds sweeter and demonstrates the instrument better?

Thanks for all ideas!

  1. Try some Less Than Jake, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, or The Johnstones.

  2. Well as far as "cool" recognizable songs go, I would go with Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple. The kids might not know the name of it or who it's by but, it definitely has a very familiar and rock n' roll tune, to it.
